The basic T-shirt: small details that change everything
Two white T-shirts can be very different. The weight of the cotton (in GSM) decides whether the fabric is see-through and whether it keeps its shape after washing. Thin viscose is pleasant in summer but stretches quickly, while pure cotton “breathes” but can shrink.
So for everyday pieces, look at the composition, and for an oversized fit, look at the length and shoulder width, because every brand has its own idea of “oversized”.
What to put in your request
- Style — T-shirt, vest, crop top, polo, long sleeve, oversized, basic.
- Material — cotton, cotton with elastane, linen, viscose.
- Size — letter size or chest measurement.
- Colour or print — plain white, black, with a slogan.
- Custom printing — photo, text, logo.
- Quantity — the price per piece depends on it.
- Brand — for example Uniqlo.
- Condition — new or second-hand.
- Budget — for example per piece.
Example: “I need 20 identical white oversized T-shirts, 100% cotton, with our team logo printed on the chest. Sizes S–L, I will list them separately. Sha Tin, needed before 1 April. Budget up to HK$28 per piece.”
If you need printing or a batch
For an order with a print, it helps to know which printing method suits you: heat transfer, DTF, screen printing or embroidery. Digital printing is easier for small batches, and screen printing for large ones. Sellers and print shops name the method in their offer, and you just describe the design and attach an image.
Ask whether the price includes the design work, whether the size split is the same across the whole batch, and how many days production will take.
A T-shirt for a specific purpose
For sport and hot summers, people choose vests in light cotton or viscose. For the office under a blazer, choose a plain basic T-shirt without a big print. A long sleeve and a crop top work as a layer under a sweater or hoodie. For corporate wear, choose the same colours and size range so the batch looks uniform.
