Car antenna: how to choose and buy at a better price

First decide which signal you need to receive

Car antennas are made for different jobs: FM/AM radio, TV, GPS or 4G mobile. A radio antenna won’t do for navigation, so in your request say at once what you want to receive. The most popular case is FM for the stereo, when the factory mast was broken in a car wash or cut off.

Type and mounting place

A passive antenna is just a conductor, while an active one has a built-in amplifier and needs power. An active one pulls in weak signals better, but depends on the wiring. A separate format is the “shark fin” on the roof: it looks neat, but several modules (radio, GPS) can hide under it, so check what exactly it receives.

Mounts come for the roof, wing, glass or magnet. Glass ones are stuck on the windscreen or rear glass, and magnetic ones are handy as a temporary fix. Make sure the cable reaches the stereo without strain.

What to put in your request

  • Antenna type — active or passive, shark fin, glass, magnetic, roof;
  • What to receive — FM/AM, TV, GPS or 4G;
  • Mounting place — roof, glass, wing, magnet;
  • Connector — DIN, ISO, Fakra or SMA, otherwise the antenna won’t connect;
  • Car model — if you need a factory-type antenna, for example Hyundai Elantra;
  • Model or brand;
  • Quantity;
  • Delivery city or method, for example courier;
  • Budget.

Example: “I’m looking for a new active roof antenna for FM, DIN connector, for the stereo in a Hyundai Elantra. One piece, courier delivery to Quezon City, budget up to ₱760.”

How to compare offers

Antennas that look the same can have different gain and cable length. Ask whether there is an adapter for your connector, and whether the antenna suits the supply voltage of your stereo. For a factory-type antenna, compare the match to the car’s model and year, not only its looks.

Check whether the cable and mount are in the price and whether there is a warranty. Very cheap ones often have poor cable shielding, and already at a few metres the signal breaks up.

Where BlaBlaPrice helps

On BlaBlaPrice you describe what you need once and don’t search for sellers yourself: they reply in the chat with the price, terms and delivery. The platform shows the offer with the best value first and puts seller reviews next to it. Sellers see where their offer stands and compete for your choice. Your phone number stays hidden. See also how it works.

If the radio hisses even after a new antenna, check the cables and adapters or think about a modern car stereo. And for a smartphone with no radio there are FM transmitters.

Questions and answers

Active or passive antenna: which should I choose?

An active one has an amplifier and catches weak signals better, but needs power. A passive one is simpler and more reliable if the stations in your area are strong.

How do I know which connector I need?

Look at the plug on the stereo or on the old antenna and take a photo. You can also write the stereo model, and sellers will advise.

Can I put a shark fin in place of a mast?

Often yes, but a shark fin needs a hole in the roof and a compatible cable type. Ask the seller about adapters and fitting examples for your car.

What does it cost the buyer?

Using the site is free. Sellers pay a fee only when you choose them.
