Car glass: how to buy and replace a windscreen or side glass well
First decide which glass and what options it has
A windscreen, a rear window, a door window, a quarter glass or a panoramic roof are completely different items and prices. The windscreen hides the most surprises: one model can have several versions. The glass may have a rain or light sensor, a heated wiper zone, a bracket for a camera, a head-up display, an acoustic film or a tinted band at the top. If you order without the option you need, the sensor will not work or the camera will not fit.
How searching works through BlaBlaPrice
Instead of phoning glass centres and workshops, you describe the car, the glass and whether you need fitting in a request. Sellers reply in the chat: which glass, the maker, the price, whether fitting is included, when they can do it. The platform shows the best-value offer first, and seller reviews are beside each one. Contacts are hidden, and only the one you choose gets your phone number. More on the how it works page.
What to put in your request
- Which glass — windscreen, rear, side; for a side window also the side, for example rear right door.
- Model and year — with or without a facelift, and the body: Toyota Camry 50, 2014.
- Options — rain sensor, heating, camera, HUD, acoustic glass, tint.
- Original or aftermarket — or the maker’s brand.
- Condition — new or used, if glass from a breaker will do.
- Fitting — at a workshop or with a visit to you.
- City, area and budget.
Example: “I need a windscreen for a Toyota Camry 50, 2014, with a rain sensor and wiper heating. New, aftermarket from a good maker. Fitting at a workshop in Cebu City, preferably this week. Budget up to ₱7,600 including fitting.”
How to compare offers
Ask what is in the price: only the part, or also the trim, new sealing strip, adhesive sealant, plastic mouldings and labour. The adhesive has to cure, so find out how soon you can drive and whether you need half a day without the car. Check whether there is a warranty against leaks, meaning it will not leak or whistle. The maker can also change the price: original glass, a good aftermarket one and a cheap one differ in accuracy of shape and clarity.
Common mistakes
Ordering by the model name without checking the options against the old glass or the VIN. Taking a used windscreen with small cracks or worn coating. Forgetting to recalibrate the camera after replacement, if there is one. If the body is also damaged, look separately at body parts, and for the interior interior parts.
