Eyelash extensions and lamination: how to choose a lash artist and price
Extensions or lamination: what suits you
They are different procedures. Extensions add artificial lashes, give volume and length, but need a refill roughly every few weeks. Lamination works with your own lashes: it curls them, makes them look longer and sets the shape, with no artificial material. If you want a dramatic effect, look at extensions, and if you want a natural look with minimal upkeep, look at lamination.
There are several kinds of extensions too: classic (“one on one”), 2D and 3D (fans), and Hollywood volume. The more complex the volume, the longer the procedure takes and the higher the price.
What to include in your request
- Procedure — 2D extensions, lamination, lash botox, tinting.
- Effect and curl — natural, cat-eye, doll look, curl C, D or L, length.
- First time or refill — and whether someone else’s work has to be removed.
- Materials — hypoallergenic glue, if your eyes are sensitive.
- Date and time.
- Home visit or salon.
- Area, the artist’s experience and budget.
Example: “I need 2D extensions, natural effect, curl C, first time. My eyes are sensitive, so I need hypoallergenic glue. Woodlands, evening after 6 pm. A lash artist with 2+ years of experience, budget up to $23.”
How to compare offers
The price of extensions depends on volume and length, so compare identical options. Ask whether removal of someone else’s work is included and whether there is a discount on a refill within a certain period. Ask for photos of their work: they show neatness, the gap from the eyelid and the absence of stuck-together lashes.
- Which materials: the glue brand, certificates and hypoallergenic options.
- How long the procedure takes: extensions take hours, not minutes.
- Whether hygiene is maintained: disposable micro-brushes, cleaned tweezers.
Mistakes to avoid
The most common are choosing lashes that are too long and pull on your own, and not mentioning an allergy to the glue. Another is putting off a refill, after which lashes fall out unevenly. If your eye burns or turns red after the procedure, go back to the artist, and if in doubt, see a doctor. For lamination, ask how often it can be repeated: the artist will decide the interval.
