The names of these procedures are often mixed up. Keratin straightening makes hair smoother and more manageable, hair botox restores and nourishes more, nanoplasty and cold repair work more gently, and lamination and polishing improve the look. Some formulas straighten curls outright, others only reduce frizz. So decide first: do you want to straighten curls, or bring back shine and smoothness after bleaching?
Formula and safety
Some formulas contain formaldehyde or substances that release it under high heat. If you are pregnant, sensitive to smells or allergic, ask directly for a formaldehyde-free formula and the brand name of the product. The workspace should be well ventilated and the stylist should use protective equipment. If in doubt, check with a doctor.
What affects the price
- hair length: the longer, the more product and time;
- thickness: thick hair needs more of the formula;
- condition: bleached or coloured hair needs a gentler approach;
- the brand of the product and type of procedure;
- salon, or a stylist visiting your home.
Come with clean hair, or as the stylist advises: a deep-cleansing shampoo is usually used before keratin. Agree on how long to wait before washing and tying your hair after the procedure, because that is part of the result.
How to compare offers
The same price can mean different products and amounts. Ask which brand is used, whether the formula is measured for your length, how long the procedure takes and how long the effect lasts. Ask for photos of work on hair similar to yours. Check the home care: a sulphate-free shampoo and a pause before washing are usually part of the result. In humid weather and the rainy season, ask how the result holds up.
