How to choose and buy scales: floor, smart, baby and kitchen
Scales come in many kinds
Floor scales for people are mechanical or electronic. Mechanical ones are cheap and need no battery, but are less accurate. Electronic ones show weight to within 100 grams. Smart scales with a body-composition analyser estimate the percentage of fat, water and muscle and sync with an app on your phone. Separately there are baby scales for infants and kitchen scales for food, accurate to a gram.
So in your request don't stop at the word “scales”: give the type, because these are quite different products.
What to put in your request

- maximum weight — up to how many kilograms, and what accuracy;

What to look at
Smart scales measure body composition with a weak electric current. Treat the results as a guide to your trend, not a medical diagnosis: the numbers differ at different times of day. Don't draw conclusions about your health from these readings alone, and for questions about your body ask a doctor.
When choosing, look at the weight limit (if your weight is close to it, look for one with room to spare), the measuring step, the type of power (batteries or a rechargeable one) and the platform glass, where toughened glass is more reliable. For kitchen scales, accuracy to one gram and a tare function matter. Baby scales need a tray and a hold function, because the baby moves.
For the scales to read correctly, put them on a hard, level floor, not on a carpet. Some smart models remember several users and recognise them by weight, which is handy for a family.
