Water filters: RO, whole-house and cartridges for your home
Not a filter, but a water problem
A filter is chosen for the water that comes out of your tap, not the other way round. Municipal supply, a well and a borehole are three different stories. Municipal water more often needs extra treatment for chlorine and fine impurities, while borehole water means dealing with iron, hardness or a smell. Without a water test, or at least a description of the problem, you can buy a system that doesn't fix the main issue.
If the problem is serious, get a lab test of your water: then it is clear which stages you actually need.
What to put in your request
- type of filter — jug, under-sink, reverse osmosis (RO), whole-house, replacement cartridges;
- water — municipal, well, borehole; hard, with iron, with a smell;
- capacity — for how many people or what flow you need;
- model — a brand or a specific system;
- original or compatible — for cartridges;
- extra stages — mineraliser, pump, UV lamp, separate tap;
- installation, city, warranty and budget.
Example: “I need an under-sink reverse osmosis system for a family of 4, borehole water with a lot of iron. With a mineraliser and installation. Ang Mo Kio, with warranty, budget up to $240.”
Which type for which job
- Jug — the cheapest start, fine for drinking water for a few people.
- Under-sink — more convenient and gives clean water from a separate tap.
- Reverse osmosis — very deep cleaning of drinking water; the water after it is “soft”, so some people add a mineraliser. It has a tank and needs space and a drain.
- Whole-house and main-line — protects the pipes and appliances, especially with iron and hardness.
For borehole water you usually need iron removal or softening first, before fitting fine filters.
Consumables are the hidden cost
Cartridges have to be changed on schedule, and over the years their cost can exceed the price of the filter itself. So compare not only the price of the system, but also the price and life of the cartridges and whether they are easy to buy. Original cartridges are usually more reliable; compatible ones are cheaper, but the quality varies.
Before installation, ask about space: under the sink there must be room for the housings, and for RO also for the tank and a separate tap on the counter. In a house, a main-line filter goes after the water inlet, and you will need access to the pipe.
How it works with BlaBlaPrice
You describe your water and your task on BlaBlaPrice, and sellers reply in chat: which system, what is included, whether installation is offered, and the price. They can see where their offer stands and compete for your request. The best-value offer is shown first, with reviews next to it. Contacts stay hidden and are opened only to the seller you choose.
