How to find a bartender: cocktail bar, restaurant, nightclub

Where to start your bartender listing

A bartender in a cocktail bar and a bartender in a hotel restaurant do different work. The first runs a signature menu, the second more often makes classics, coffee and pours beer. So in the first line of your request, describe the type of venue and what is on the bar menu. This filters out half of the unsuitable replies.

Write your request in your own words, the way you would tell a friend: what kind of bar it is, when you open and how many people are on a shift.

Details that decide who replies

  • Type of venue — cocktail bar, pub, nightclub, restaurant, lounge.
  • Bar menu — classic or signature cocktails, coffee, draught beer.
  • Schedule — night shifts 2-on-2-off, weekends, closing time.
  • Salary — fixed pay, tips, sales bonus, for example ₹1,200 per shift + tips.
  • Place of work — city and area, for example Bengaluru, Indiranagar.
  • Employment — formal contract, seasonal, side job.
  • Experience — from 1 year, any food-handling or bar-related certificates.
  • Languages — spoken English if you get foreign guests.

Example request

“A cocktail bar in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, needs a bartender. Night shifts 2-on-2-off, ₹1,200 per shift plus tips, formal contract. 1+ years of experience, ability to work with a signature menu, spoken English. Season from May.”

How to check a candidate

A bartender is best judged behind the bar. Arrange a trial shift or a short practice: see how they keep order, work at pace, measure portions and talk to guests. Talk about dozens of famous cocktails means nothing if the person cannot quickly make four different orders.

Ask about accounting: who balances the till and how pouring is written off. Clear rules save you from conflicts at the end of a shift.

Say at once whether the bartender works alone or with a helper, and who is responsible for buying ice, fruit and alcohol. For a late-night venue, also talk about how the employee gets home after the shift: on such a schedule it is often the deciding factor.

How the search works on BlaBlaPrice

You do not need to sit on forums and answer calls. You write the listing, it is checked for ads and stray contacts, and candidates reply in the chat with their experience, when they can start and the pay they want. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose someone. A request stays active for 7 days. How it all works is on the How it works page.

For a bartender looking for a place

Register on BlaBlaPrice as a service provider, choose the category and your area, and reply to the listings that suit you. Also look at waiter / waitress if you would like to work on the floor.

Questions and answers

What matters more: experience or skill with a signature menu?

For a simple bar, experience with a standard menu of classic cocktails is enough. For a signature menu, state separately that the candidate must show their skill on a trial shift.

Should I offer tips instead of a high fixed pay?

It is fairer to state both the fixed pay and the tips. Bartenders often ask whether tips are shared in the team, so say it plainly.

Is a trial shift needed?

It is common practice. Agree in advance whether it is paid and how long it lasts.

Can I list only the days and hours I need?

Yes, you can describe the schedule any way you like: 2-on-2-off, weekends, evenings only. Just make it clear when the shift ends.
