Electric vehicle repair: e-scooters and e-bikes
The most common e-scooter faults
In light electric vehicles, problems usually centre on a few parts: the battery, the controller, the hub motor, the display, the brakes and the tyres. Symptoms include a shorter range, a scooter that will not switch on, jerky riding, an error code, a battery that will not hold or take a charge, and a leaking tube. Sometimes the fault is in the charger or its connector.
Some faults are caused by water. Riding in the rain or through puddles is harmful for many models, especially if the water protection is low. Tell the technician about it right away.
What to put in your request
- what the vehicle is — e-scooter, e-bike, hoverboard, electric unicycle;
- the model — for example, Xiaomi Mi Scooter Pro 2;
- the fault — will not go, an error (give the code), charge drops sharply, brakes, tube;
- the battery — voltage and capacity, whether it needs replacing, for example 36 V 15 Ah;
- the cause — a fall, water, wear;
- spare parts — original or compatible;
- home visit or pickup, time, city, budget.
Example: “Xiaomi Mi Scooter Pro 2 electric scooter shows error 21 and will not go. I used it in the rain. I need a check-up and repair, most likely the controller or a sensor. Andheri, Mumbai, I need courier pickup, 1–2 days, budget up to ₹2,500.”
Battery: repair or replace
The battery is the most expensive part. If the range has dropped, the cause may be worn cells, a faulty control board (BMS) or a poor contact. The technician can test the individual sections and suggest replacing only the defective ones, or a full replacement with a new pack. Compare by capacity and voltage: a battery with the same volts but a lower capacity will give a shorter range.
Also ask where the cells come from and what warranty the new battery has. Be careful with lithium batteries. Do not charge a damaged or swollen battery, and do not carry it unpacked. It is better to show it to a technician.
How to compare offers
- Is the diagnosis free, and is it counted in the repair price?
- Is the price given with parts, and which parts: original or compatible?
- What is the warranty, and does it cover the battery replacement separately?
- Does the technician have experience with your model and offer a home visit or pickup?
A common mistake is to open a sealed housing yourself. You can damage the seals and weaken the water protection. Another is to experiment with the battery without knowing the BMS circuit.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You create a request once, and technicians reply in the chat with offers: price, or what it depends on, time, and visit or pickup. The request is checked first, and you are told what to add. Technicians see their position among the others and often improve their terms, and reviews are shown beside each offer. Only the technician you choose gets your contacts. More in how it works.
