FPV drone parts: motors, controllers and cameras

The parts of an FPV drone only work together

When you build or repair an FPV drone, the most important thing is that everything matches. Motors, ESCs, the flight controller, camera, video transmitter, receiver and battery must fit in voltage, current and frame size. One mismatched part can damage the others.

So start with the size of the drone (for example, 7 inch) and the battery cell count, and only then choose the parts.

A simple example: a high-KV motor on a large propeller will overheat and burn the ESC, and a 30 A ESC will not handle motors that draw more at peak. So for each item you need headroom in current and you must know which propellers you plan to use. Do not forget the small things: power connectors (XT60), cables, silicone wire, a capacitor on the power, screws and vibration dampers.

Typical items and what to look at

  • Motors — stator size (2807), KV (1300KV), maximum current, the propellers they are designed for.
  • ESCs — current and supported voltage, 4-in-1 or separate.
  • Flight controller — for example, SpeedyBee F405: processor, gyro, number of UARTs, mounting holes (30.5×30.5 or 20×20 mm).
  • Receiver and video transmitter — frequency and power, compatibility with goggles and the transmitter.
  • Frame and propellers — size, carbon material, mounting.

Original or aftermarket

For flight-controller and ESC electronics, fakes exist, and the result is failure under load. If you are building a batch of drones, it is critical that all the sets are identical. So say clearly whether you want originals only, and ask for photos of the boards and markings. For motors and propellers, aftermarket parts are often fine if the specifications match.

What to put in your request

  • What exactly — motors, ESC, controller, camera, frame;
  • Specifications — for example, 2807 1300KV;
  • For which drone — size in inches;
  • Brand and model;
  • Quantity, especially for a batch;
  • Original or aftermarket;
  • Budget per unit;
  • Payment and papers — a GST invoice for a company or organisation;
  • City for delivery.

Example: “I need 40 motors 2807 1300KV for 7-inch drones, originals only, and 10 SpeedyBee F405 flight controllers. Bengaluru, courier delivery, a GST invoice is needed for a company. Budget up to ₹2,400 per motor.”

How BlaBlaPrice helps with bulk purchases

You describe what you need on the home page, and sellers send offers in the chat: availability, price per unit, timing, terms for a bulk order. They see where they stand among others, so they often improve their terms. It is free for the buyer, and your phone is hidden. Details are on How it works.

For a ready-built drone see FPV drones, and for ordinary use drones.

Questions and answers

What does KV mean for a motor?

It is the number of revolutions per volt with no load. For large propellers people usually take motors with a lower KV, and for small ones a higher KV.

Can I mix parts from different brands?

Yes, if the voltage, current, mounting sizes and protocols match. Check the specifications before buying and name the drone model in your request.

How can I check that a controller is original?

Ask for photos of the board with its markings and of the packaging, and ask about the warranty. It is safer to buy from sellers with reviews.

Can I get a GST invoice for a company?

Yes, write about it in the request. Sellers will say which documents they can provide.
