Pram or stroller: how to choose the type and buy at a good price
The type of pram depends on age and season
A newborn needs a carrycot where the baby lies flat, so 2-in-1 prams (a carrycot and a stroller seat) or 3-in-1 (with a car seat as well) suit best. After six months, when the baby can sit, people often move to a stroller with a seat: it is lighter and more compact. A separate class is convertibles and prams for twins.
The season of the baby's birth matters too: in hot weather you need ventilation and a light hood, and in the monsoon a good rain cover and wheels that cope with wet roads. In the north and the hills winter needs a warm footmuff.
Weight, folding and wheels
These are the things you will feel every day. If you live without a lift or often use public transport, weight matters: a light stroller folds with one hand and fits in a car boot. Heavier all-round prams are more comfortable on uneven roads, but carrying them up to a floor takes effort.
Air-filled wheels are softer and absorb bumps better, but they need pumping and can puncture. Solid rubber wheels need no care but are harder. For rough pavements and uneven roads, look for wide wheels and sturdy suspension.
What to put in your request
- type of pram — 2-in-1, 3-in-1, stroller, convertible, twin;
- child's age — newborn or older;
- model — brand and name, for example Cybex (a brand without a model is only part of a request);
- weight and folding — for example up to 8 kg, folds with one hand;
- wheels — air-filled or rubber, for rough roads;
- colour;
- condition and what is included — new or used, rain cover, bag, mosquito net;
- budget and delivery city.
Example: “I need a new 2-in-1 pram for a newborn, graphite colour, with air-filled wheels and a rain cover. Weight isn't critical, but it must fit in a lift. Budget up to ₹25,000, delivery to Bengaluru.”
A used pram: what to look at
A used pram can be a great buy, because babies use one for a short time. Ask for photos of the fabric, frame, wheels and folding mechanism and a video of how it folds. Check the brake, the safety straps and that the carrycot doesn't jam. Find out whether all the parts are included: rain cover, footmuff, bag, car seat adapters.
How to compare offers
Check the model and what is included: the same pram can be sold with a different set. Ask about the year and the collection: leftovers of an old collection can be priced differently. Ask about the warranty and service: whether you can buy spare wheels and covers.
How it works in BlaBlaPrice
You write one request and sellers of baby products reply in the chat: model, what is included, price, delivery. BlaBlaPrice shows the best offer first, judged on what it contains, with reviews of the seller next to each. Sellers see their place among the others, so they compete for your request. Contacts are hidden. More in how it works.
With a pram you often need a child car seat too, and for the bedroom children's furniture.
