How to find a vehicle fitter: suspension repair, parts replacement and servicing
What you expect from a fitter in a garage
A vehicle fitter does repair work: replaces and repairs suspension, brakes, clutch, engine and transmission parts, and carries out scheduled servicing. The quality of their work shows after a month, when the car either comes back with a complaint or does not. So the vacancy should say clearly which jobs you are offering.
Decide in advance which vehicles you will work on: imported cars, trucks or Indian makes. This changes both the skills needed and the tools.
How to search through BlaBlaPrice
You write one vacancy request in your own words, and candidates reply in the chat: about their experience, speciality, start date and pay. Before it is shown, the request is checked, ads and contacts are removed from the text and you get hints on what is missing.
Your number stays hidden, and only the candidate you choose gets it. The vacancy is active for 7 days and can be extended. It is free for employers. Read more in “How it works”.
What to put in the vacancy
- Speciality — suspension repair, engine, transmission, general work;
- Type of vehicles — for example, imported cars;
- Tools — their own or the garage's, whether there is a lift and air tools;
- Pay — a share of labour hours or a salary;
- Location and shifts — city, area, 5 days a week, 9 am to 7 pm;
- Employment — regular employee or contract;
- Experience — how many years in a garage.
Example: “We need a vehicle fitter for suspension repair on imported cars in Bengaluru. We have lifts, the fitter needs their own basic hand tools. Five days a week, 9 am to 7 pm, pay 50% of labour hours, regular employment, at least 2 years of experience.”
How to evaluate the candidate
Ask about a typical repair: the order of taking the suspension apart, the tightening torques and what they check before handing the car back. A good fitter is not afraid to say “I don't know” and asks for the manufacturer's procedure. Notice how tidy their workplace is.
Discuss labour hours and rates: who sets them, how work that does not fit the standard time is counted. Arrange a trial and also a probation period with clear pay.
Think about safety too: whether there is a lift with inspected supports and whether you provide work clothes. It is also important for the fitter to know where parts come from: the client's or the garage's, and who is responsible for a faulty part. Clear rules at this stage reduce disputes. Also say whether there is an assistant or trainee nearby, and who is responsible for the warranty on completed work if a client returns with a complaint.
