Electric scooter: how to choose the battery, power and price
How an electric scooter differs from a petrol moped
An electric scooter runs on an electric motor and a battery, so it needs no petrol, oil or spark plugs, and servicing is simpler. But the whole “heart” of it is the battery, and it decides the range, the price and the life. So judge an electric scooter first by the battery parameters, then by the body and looks.
On BlaBlaPrice you do not hunt for sellers in showrooms: one request, and they reply in the chat with a price, photos, a warranty and delivery. The system shows the best offer first, judged on what is offered, and contacts open only to the one you choose.
Battery, motor and life
The type of battery matters: lithium is lighter and lasts longer than gel or lead-acid, but costs more. The voltage (for example 72 V) and the capacity decide the range, and the motor power, say 2,000 W, decides the pickup and the ability to climb hills with a passenger. Motors are either in the wheel or central. Ask whether the battery is removable (handy for charging at home) and whether it has deep-discharge protection.
Ask about the warranty on the battery and the motor separately from the warranty on the frame. Also ask about the availability of spares, the brakes (disc with ABS or CBS) and the lighting.
What to put in your request
- Model — for example Yadea G5.
- Power — say 2,000 W.
- Condition — new or used.
- Battery — voltage, type, range.
- Speed — the top speed you need.
- Seats — for one or for two.
- Budget and city.
Example: “I need a new Yadea G5 electric scooter, power 2,000 W, 72 V lithium battery, range 70 km, speed up to 50 km/h, for two. Jaipur, budget up to ₹80,000.”
How to compare offers
Check the model, the type and capacity of the battery, and the warranty. Two offers with a similar price can have different batteries. Ask whether the charger, helmet, top box and delivery are in the price. Find out about service in your city. For a used one, ask for the state of the battery and the number of charge cycles. For other needs, look at petrol mopeds and scooters, maxi scooters or e-scooters.
What the price depends on
The price of an electric scooter is shaped by power, type and capacity of the battery, speed, make and equipment: disc brakes and ABS, LED lights, a top box. A new model costs more but has a warranty, while a used one can be good value if the battery is in good condition. Also ask whether there is a discount for several units, if you are buying for couriers or rental. And ask about charging: whether you can plug it into an ordinary socket and how long it takes to charge fully.
Common mistakes
Taking a model with an advertised range without checking. Not asking about registration and the rules (they depend on the power, so check with your regional transport office). Buying without a warranty on the battery. Using a cheap charger. How the service works is on the “How it works” page.
