Embroidery supplies: kits, threads and beads at a good price

The technique decides what to buy

Cross-stitch, beadwork and ribbon embroidery use different materials. Cross-stitch uses stranded floss on fabric such as Aida, where the size is given as the number of squares per inch (Aida 14 is popular with beginners). Bead embroidery needs a pattern printed on fabric, beads and fine needles. For a dupatta or a kurta, both the pattern and the fabric matter.

A kit or separate materials

A ready kit contains everything: the fabric, threads with a colour chart, a needle and a pattern. It is handy for beginners and as a gift. If you already have threads or fabric, you can buy just the pattern and pick the rest separately; this gives you freedom but needs more careful counting.

Ask whether the kit has spare thread, whether the pattern is printed on the fabric, and whether the colour symbols are easy to read. For beads, look at the type and maker: Czech beads, for example Preciosa, are valued for even size.

What to put in your request

  • What exactly — an embroidery kit, a pattern on fabric, floss, beads, fabric, hoops;
  • Technique — cross-stitch, beads, satin stitch, ribbons;
  • Design — an icon, a floral border, a traditional motif, flowers, a landscape;
  • Size of the finished piece or the fabric;
  • What is included — with threads or beads, or the pattern only;
  • Materials — thread brand and number of colours (DMC, Anchor), bead type, fabric count;
  • Quantity of kits, skeins or metres of fabric;
  • Budget and city for delivery.

Example: “Looking for a bead embroidery kit, a religious icon, size 30×40 cm, pattern on fabric with Preciosa beads and needles included. Pune, courier delivery, budget up to ₹2,000.”

Do not forget the hoop: for large pieces a frame is more convenient, and for small ones a round hoop of 15–20 cm.

How to compare offers

Compare the size of the design, the number of colours and whether everything you need is included. A kit with a low price sometimes comes with poorer thread that bleeds or tangles. For floss, ask about the brand and shade numbers, especially if you are adding to a project already started.

For big projects, such as a wall hanging or a picture that takes months, count extra thread and beads, because a shade can differ between batches later.

How BlaBlaPrice works

You write your request once, and sellers of kits and materials answer in the chat with prices and photos. They see where their offer stands and improve their terms, so the price is often better. Contacts stay hidden until you choose a seller. Details are on How it works.

Alongside embroidery you may need yarn and knitting supplies and paint-by-numbers and diamond painting. You can create a request on the home page.

Questions and answers

What does Aida 14 mean?

It is fabric with 14 squares per inch. The higher the number, the smaller the stitches and the finer the work.

Why is a kit better than separate materials?

Everything is already chosen and counted, so it is easy to start. Separate materials give more freedom but you have to work out the quantities yourself.

How do I choose embroidery floss?

Go by the brand (for example, DMC or Anchor) and the shade numbers on the pattern. Offers are easier to compare when the brand is stated.

Can I order a pattern from my own drawing?

Yes, say so in the request and attach the image. Sellers will tell you whether they can make it and for how much.
