How to find a general labourer: tasks, pay, one-off or permanent work
A general labourer is for when you need a hand everywhere
You look for a general labourer when you need hands for support work: unloading a truck, sorting, cleaning a workshop, moving materials, helping the foreman. That is why the most important thing is to list the tasks clearly. A vague “various work” creates misunderstanding: the person expects one thing and finds heavy physical labour with loads.
One-off, seasonal or permanent
General labourers are hired in different ways: for a day, for a season (harvest, building work) or on the payroll. Say which one you need, because pay and paperwork differ. For a one-off side job, the date, hours and amount matter; for permanent work, the schedule, formal employment and prospects.
Describe the conditions honestly too: whether you issue work clothing and gloves, whether there is lunch and breaks, whether the person works outdoors. General labourers leave quickly if reality doesn't match the post, so being specific saves you a second search. If a driving licence or a skill with a pallet truck is needed, say that too.
What to put in the job post
- Duties — unloading, sorting, cleaning, helping the foreman;
- Pay — per day, shift, hour or volume;
- Place of work — city, area, address;
- Schedule — for example, 5 days a week or specific days;
- Experience — usually not needed;
- Type of employment — one-off side job, season, payroll, formal or not;
- Accommodation — provided or not, meals.
Example: “Lucknow, a general labourer is needed at a warehouse-cum-workshop: unloading and sorting, 5 days a week, pay ₹500 a day, paid weekly. No experience needed, physical stamina required. Paperwork by agreement.”
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You publish one request for the job in your own words. It is checked for ads and extra contacts, and you get hints on what else to add. Candidates reply in chat, and you see when they can start and what pay they expect; reviews next to a reply help you trust them. Contacts stay hidden until you choose a person. More on the How it works page.
How to avoid mistakes in choosing
Agree on payment dates and on who provides tools. Don't promise too much: if the work is hard, say so. Agree on payment dates and whether there is an advance. For one-off side jobs it is better to have a few backup candidates: somebody may not turn up. If it turns out you need a skill, look at the fitter or the assembler, and for a warehouse, the order picker.
