Grooming and haircuts for dogs and other pets: salon prices
Full grooming, hygiene trim or just a bath
The names of services in salons can be confusing. Full grooming usually includes a bath, drying, brushing, a haircut or stripping, and nail and ear care. A hygiene trim removes coat only in the hygiene areas, on the paws and around the eyes. Hand-stripping is the removal of dead coat with the fingers or a knife for wire-coated breeds, such as terriers, and scissors cannot replace it.
So before your request, work out what your pet needs. A toy poodle needs a regular shaped haircut, a Labrador needs a bath and undercoat brushing, and a Scottish Terrier needs stripping.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You create a request and describe the pet, the service and the area. Groomers and salons reply with offers in the chat: the price or what it depends on, a free slot, how long it takes. Before it is shown, the request is checked and you are told what else to clarify. Reviews of the provider are shown beside every offer, and the best-value one is shown first. Contacts are opened only to the one you choose. Details are on the How it works page.
What to put in your request
- Pet — dog, cat, rabbit or another;
- Breed and weight — size decides both the time and the price;
- Service — full grooming, hygiene trim, stripping, bath, nails;
- Coat condition — long, matted, tangles, heavy moulting;
- Behaviour — afraid, bites, a muzzle is needed;
- Format — a salon or a visiting groomer;
- City, area, date and budget.
Example: “Toy poodle, 3 kg, I need full grooming with a teddy-bear cut, there are tangles on the belly. The dog gets nervous, but does not bite. Chennai, Adyar, on Saturday. Budget up to ₹1,500.”
What affects the price and how to compare
The price depends on the breed, weight, length and condition of the coat, the range of services and how difficult the dog is. Removing tangles is separate work and is charged separately. Compare offers by the list: whether the price includes washing with professional products, drying, a haircut, nails, ears and hygiene. Ask how long the procedure takes, whether the dog is left at the salon for several hours, and how the animal is supervised. A good groomer will gladly show how they work with nervous animals.
Common mistakes
Hiding that the dog bites or is very frightened: this is dangerous for everyone. Showing the groomer a ten-year-old photo and expecting the same result: write exactly what you want, and if you can, add a photo of the cut you like. Booking at the last moment before festivals, when free slots are few. For cats there is a separate page, cat grooming, and if you need someone to look after your pet while you are away, see pet sitters.
