Hairdressing services: how to find a stylist and agree a price
At the salon, your hair sets the price, not the service
Two clients can order “colouring” and get completely different bills. Length, thickness, previous colouring, the number of shades and the complexity of the technique all matter. Balayage or airtouch on long, thick hair means several hours of work and plenty of colour, while toning cuts both the time and the cost. So a stylist cannot honestly name a price without details.
What to include in your request
- Service — haircut, colouring, balayage, airtouch, keratin, styling or an updo.
- Hair length — for example, below the shoulder blades.
- Hair condition — previous colouring, thickness, grey, damage.
- For whom — woman, man or child.
- Materials — the colour you want, for example Wella, or your own materials.
- Date — the day and a convenient time.
- Where — a salon in your area or a home visit.
- Stylist’s experience — colourist, portfolio, specialisation.
- Budget — if you want to state it.
Add a photo of the result you want and a photo of your hair now in daylight. This helps the stylist assess the amount of work and say honestly whether that shade is possible in one visit.
Example: “I need airtouch colouring on hair below the shoulder blades, thick, previously coloured dark. I want a light brown shade with Wella. Jaipur, C-Scheme, Saturday at 12:00. I need an experienced colourist, budget up to ₹8,000.”
How finding a stylist works on BlaBlaPrice
Instead of messaging each stylist separately, you write one request. It is checked, anything unnecessary is removed and you get hints on what to add. Then stylists and salons in your area reply in chat: what exactly they will do, what the price is or what it depends on, when they have a free slot and whether materials are included.
BlaBlaPrice shows the best-value offer first, with reviews of the stylist next to each. Stylists see where they stand among the others and can improve their terms, so the price often ends up better. Your contacts are hidden, and you share them only with the one you choose. The details are on the “How it works” page.
How to compare offers
- Whether colour, treatment, styling and consultation are in the price, or separate items.
- How much time is planned, and whether there could be extra charges for length or an additional shade.
- Whether there is a portfolio of similar work, not just general photos.
- Whether a prior consultation or a test strand is needed, especially after dark colouring or a chemical treatment.
Common mistakes
Not giving your colouring history (henna, black dye and home colour are hard to remove): going from dark to light in one session does not always work, and the price goes up because of the extra stages. Showing only one reference photo without considering your own hair. Not checking whether treatment (keratin, botox) is included in the price, and not agreeing in advance how long the visit will take.
One more tip: if you need a complete look, also check makeup artists and manicure. For a general overview, see the “Beauty and health” section.
