Men's jeans: how to buy the right cut and size at a good price
W and L size, and the cut
Jeans are most often returned because of size. The same W32 L34 fits differently in different brands, especially after washing. So put both the waist (W) and the length (L) in your request, and the cut too: slim, straight (regular), tapered, loose or cargo.
If you want a favourite model, such as the Levi's 501, give its exact name. Mentioning only the brand leaves sellers too much room to guess, and you get offers that are hard to compare.
What to put in your request
- cut: slim, skinny, straight, tapered, bootcut, loose;
- size: W and L, or a numeric or letter size;
- model: the brand and exact name, if you have chosen one;
- colour and wash: dark blue, black, light, with fading or without;
- material: 100% cotton, stretch, selvedge, or fleece-lined;
- condition: new with tags, or second-hand and what signs of wear are acceptable;
- delivery city and budget, if you want to state it.
Example: “I'm looking for new men's Levi's 501 jeans or a similar straight-cut model, W33 L32, dark blue with no fading, 100% cotton. Delivery to Hyderabad by courier, inspection before payment. Budget up to ₹4,000.”
How to search through BlaBlaPrice
You do not have to hunt for the right size across shops. You write a request in your own words, and clothing sellers reply with offers in the chat: what exactly is in stock, the price, a photo of the tag and the delivery terms. Each of them can see where their offer stands, so they often compete for the buyer and improve their terms. Only the seller pays, and only when you choose them.
How to compare offers
- Fabric composition: pure denim feels different from stretch with elastane. Stretch is more comfortable but loses its shape sooner.
- Original or replica: ask for photos of the tags, the stitching and the inner label with the article number.
- Measurements in centimetres (waist, hips, inseam) instead of just a letter.
- For second-hand: photos of the knees, belt loops, pockets and crotch, and whether there is fading or darning.
- Whether you can return them if the size is wrong, and who pays for shipping.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not buy “by eye” without measurements, and do not forget shrinkage: raw denim that has not been pre-washed can shrink by a few centimetres. Do not mix up straight and tapered: the first is the same width all the way down, and the second narrows toward the hem. For hot weather a lighter denim is better, and for the cold north, lined ones.
Pair your jeans with a shirt or a jumper. And if you need looser or more formal trousers, have a look at the neighbouring category. All the details are on the “How it works” page.
Questions and answers
What do W and L mean in jeans sizes?
W is the waist in inches, and L is the inseam length, also in inches. For example, W32 L34 means a waist of about 81 cm.
Do jeans shrink after washing?
Ordinary cotton denim can shrink a little, especially raw or untreated denim. Stretch usually shrinks less, but may loosen with wear.
How can I tell original jeans from a replica?
Ask for photos of the tags, the inner label with the article number, the hardware and the stitching. It is safer to buy from sellers with reviews, which you can see next to the offer.
Which cut should I choose if I have wide hips?
Straight (regular) or looser models usually fit better. Narrow skinny and slim cuts can feel tight, so compare the hip measurements in the offers.
