Prescription glasses and contact lenses: how to order at a good price
The prescription is the basis of the order
Prescription glasses and lenses are made to a prescription, so a request without parameters will not get you far. For each eye you give the power (sph); with astigmatism you add the cylinder (cyl) and axis; for glasses you also need the pupillary distance (PD). If your prescription is old, it is better to have your eyes tested by an eye doctor, because fitting lenses and glasses is a medical matter and you should not do it yourself.
In the request you can simply copy the numbers from your prescription. Don't post the document with personal data in the text; the parameters are enough.
Glass for spectacles: what to look at
The price of glasses depends on several things. The refractive index decides the thickness of the lens: with strong powers, thinner lenses look neater. An anti-reflective coating makes driving and screen work easier. A blue-light filter is made for those who sit at a computer for long, and photochromic lenses darken in the sun. Progressive lenses for age 45+ need precise fitting, and making them takes longer.
Contact lenses: replacement schedules and parameters
Lenses come as daily, two-weekly and monthly. Dailies are more convenient and hygienic, monthlies are cheaper per day of wear. Special kinds are toric lenses for astigmatism and coloured ones. Besides the power, you need the base curve (BC) and the diameter, so don't change brand without a doctor's advice. Don't buy on the principle of “looks like these”: different models sit on the eye differently.
What to put in your request
- What you need — glasses with a frame, lenses for your own frame, contact lenses, computer or reading glasses.
- Power and prescription — separately for each eye, cylinder and axis, PD.
- Spectacle lenses — anti-reflective, blue-light filter, photochromic, thin, progressive.
- Type of contact lenses — daily, monthly, toric, coloured.
- Frame — material, shape, size.
- Brand — for example Acuvue or Essilor.
- Quantity — boxes or pairs.
- For whom — adult or child (age).
- Delivery city and budget, if you want to name one.
Example: “I need Acuvue Oasys monthly contact lenses, −2.5 in both eyes, I have a prescription, 2 boxes of 6. Pune, courier delivery. Budget up to ₹3,000.”
How to compare offers
The point of comparing is identical parameters. Check whether the price of glasses includes both the frame and the lenses and the fitting, and whether there are a case and a warranty. For contact lenses, look at the expiry date and the number of lenses in a box.
On BlaBlaPrice sellers send offers themselves in the chat: what they offer, how much it costs, when the glasses will be ready. The platform shows the best by content first, seller reviews are next to it, and sellers compete for the request. Contacts are hidden. More details are on the “How it works” page.
