TV repair: how to get offers from technicians
Describe the symptom first, not a guess
“Won’t switch on”, “sound but no picture”, “lines on the screen”, “switches on and goes off after a few seconds”: these are different faults with different prices. Without a diagnosis the technician cannot name the exact sum, but from the symptom and the model they can already give a range and say what it depends on. So do not write “something is wrong with the TV”. Describe what exactly you see and hear.
Mention the cause separately if you know it: a power surge, a knock, liquid, overheating. It helps to judge whether it is the power board, the T-con, the panel or the mainboard.
How a request works on BlaBlaPrice
You do not phone workshops. You write one request: model, screen size, symptom, city, and whether you need a home visit. You can add one photo, for example of the screen with lines. Before technicians see it, the request is checked and you are told which details they still need.
Then technicians reply in the chat: a rough price, or what it depends on, time and warranty. They can see where their offer ranks, so they often improve their terms. The platform shows the offer that is best on substance first, and reviews are visible beside every offer. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose a technician. Details are on the “How it works” page.
What to put in your request
- Model and screen size — the brand plus the exact model from the sticker on the back panel, for example Sony KD-55X75K, 55-inch.
- The fault — what exactly happens, since when, and whether it responds to the remote.
- The cause — after a thunderstorm, a fall, liquid, or no visible cause.
- Where to repair — a home visit or bring it to a workshop; for a large screen a visit is more convenient.
- Time — within 1–2 days or not urgent.
- Warranty — on the work and on the replaced part, preferably in writing.
- City and budget, if you want to name one.
Example: “Sony KD-55X75K, 55-inch. There is sound but no picture, and it started after a power surge. I need a technician at home in Mumbai, Andheri, this weekend. Warranty of at least 3 months, budget up to ₹5,000.”
How to compare offers
Check whether the diagnosis is free and whether its cost will be deducted from the repair if you agree. Find out whether the price includes spare parts or only labour. Two similar sums can mean different things: one may be a board repair and the other a replacement of the whole module.
Ask whether the part is new, refurbished or second-hand, and what exactly the warranty covers. If the technician suggests replacing the panel, compare it with the price of a new TV of the same model. For old or inexpensive sets, repair sometimes makes no sense, and an honest technician will tell you at once.
Common mistakes
Handing over the TV without a receipt note listing the accessories and condition. Agreeing to “we’ll tell you the sum later” without a cost limit. Not knowing the model and giving only the brand. Opening the casing yourself: dangerous voltage remains inside.
If other appliances at home are also failing, see home appliance repair, and for the sound system that goes with the TV, audio equipment repair. Everything is in the “Repair and servicing of appliances and electronics” section.
