Boat, kayak and paddleboard hire: how to book at a good price

The water, the route and your experience decide the choice

A paddleboard (SUP) suits calm water: lakes, bays, a slow river. A kayak or canoe is better for a trip of several days, because it carries more kit. An inflatable boat or raft is taken for a group, and an engine is needed where you must move against the current or far from the shore. So first answer three questions: where, how many people, and what experience you have.

For beginners, wide and stable models are handy. A two-seater kayak is easier to steer than a single one but needs coordination. If you have never tried, you can ask for an instructor right away.

What to put in your request

  • What to rent — SUP, kayak, canoe, inflatable boat, motorboat, raft.
  • Number and capacity — for example, 2 two-seater kayaks.
  • Engine — needed or not, what power, for example 9.9 hp.
  • Term — an hour, a day or several days of a river trip.
  • Route — the lake or river, start and finish, whether you need a vehicle drop-off.
  • Instructor or skipper — needed, or you paddle on your own.
  • Delivery to the water — bring and collect, or you collect it yourself.
  • City or area and budget.

Example: “I need 2 two-seater kayaks with paddles, life jackets and dry bags for a 3-day river trip, 20–22 July, near Pune. Drop-off at the start and pick-up at the finish, beginners. Budget up to ₹10,000.”

What is in the set and where extra charges hide

Paddles, life jackets, dry bags, a pump for a SUP and a repair kit are not always in the price. If you have a child, ask for a child's life jacket in the right size. For a motorboat, ask who pays for the fuel and whether you need a permit to operate in the place where you plan to go.

For a river trip, it matters who collects the boats at the finish and what happens if you are late. Compare the offers by the full scenario, not by the price of “a boat for a day”.

Safety and season

Take life jackets for everyone, even if you can swim. Do not go on the water in a strong wind or a storm, and keep away from rivers in spate during the monsoon. In the holiday season boats are booked early, so it is better to send your request a few days ahead.

How BlaBlaPrice works for the renter

You write one request, and boat owners and hire stations reply in the chat: what they provide, price, delivery, terms. They see their place among the other offers and improve their terms. The service is free for the renter, and your phone is hidden until you choose an offer. Details: how it works.

For a trip with an overnight stay, also look at hire of sports and camping gear or the “Rentals and hire” section.

Questions and answers

Which board or kayak should a beginner choose?

For calm water take a wide, stable SUP or a two-seater kayak. If you are unsure, write about your experience in the request and owners will advise.

Do I need a licence for a motorboat?

It depends on the engine power, the type of boat and the place. Ask the lender about the rules and do not rely on guesses.

Can I order delivery of a boat to the water?

Yes, give the place and date in the request. Lenders will say whether delivery is available and what it costs.

Are safety items included in the price?

Life jackets and paddles often come with the set, but not always. List what you need and compare offers for the full set.
