Reversing camera, monitor and parking sensors: how to buy well
Pick the device for your job
This category brings together different things, so start with the question of what exactly you lack. A reversing camera shows the picture behind you. Parking sensors beep when you get close to an obstacle. A monitor is needed if there is no factory screen: it goes on the dashboard, in a headrest or on the roof lining, or it is a mirror with a screen. A TV tuner adds digital television.
Often the best option is a camera and sensors together: the camera shows the situation and the sound tells the distance.
Compatibility decides everything
A camera with the wrong signal for the screen gives a black square. So find out what you will connect it to: the factory stereo, an Android head unit or a separate monitor. Different inputs need different connectors and types of video signal. Ask the seller whether the camera will suit your exact stereo.
Look at the functions too: night vision, dynamic guide lines, HDMI or USB inputs, a touch screen. For parking sensors, the number of sensors matters, and their colours to match the bumper.
What to put in your request
- What you need — camera, headrest or roof monitor, parking sensors, tuner, mirror monitor;
- Car model — for example Toyota Innova, 2016;
- Screen size — in inches, if you need a monitor;
- Compatibility — with the factory stereo, Android or a separate monitor;
- Functions — night vision, guide lines, HDMI, USB;
- Fitting — fitted for you or by yourself;
- Model or brand, if you have a preference;
- Condition — new or used;
- City and budget.
Example: “I need a reversing camera with night vision and guide lines for a 2016 Toyota Innova, connected to the factory stereo. A new device, fitted in Chennai, budget up to ₹5,000.”
Compare offers by what is in the kit
The same price often means different contents. Check whether the cable is of the length you need, and whether the adapter for the factory system and the control unit are in the set. Ask about the water protection rating of the camera, because it sits outside. For parking sensors, ask whether painting of the sensors and an on-screen display are included.
Ask separately what the fitting costs and whether the cable is laid under the trim. A cheap camera with poor fitting soon starts to glitch.
How BlaBlaPrice helps
You write your request once on BlaBlaPrice, and car electronics sellers reply in the chat with the price, the contents of the kit and the fitting terms. The platform shows the offer with the best value first, with seller reviews next to it. Sellers see their place among the others and compete, so terms are often better. Your phone is hidden until you choose. How it all works is explained on the “How it works” page.
If the car has no screen at all, think about a new car stereo. And for power and connection you will need cables and adapters.
