Silencer, Slip-On or Straight Pipe for Motorcycles: How to Buy

Slip-on or full system

A slip-on is just the silencer, which fits onto the stock headers. It is simpler to fit and cheaper, and it changes the sound and slightly the weight. A full system includes headers, link pipes and a silencer: it is fitted when you want a noticeable weight saving or have modified the engine. State at once in your request what exactly you need, because the difference in price is large.

Material and sound

Titanium is light and expensive, stainless steel is heavier but tougher and cheaper, and carbon is used mostly for the outer sleeves. For an exhaust this affects the weight, the looks and the service life. Think separately about sound: many silencers come with a dB killer, which lowers the volume. Without it the bike may be too loud for daily riding and for your neighbours. If you care about staying within the rules, ask whether the exhaust is approved for road use and whether it meets the noise limits where you live.

What to put in your request

  • what exactly — slip-on, full system, headers, straight pipe, an expansion chamber for a 2T;
  • model and year — for example Yamaha R6, 2010;
  • brand — for example Akrapovic, or “any good quality”;
  • material — titanium, stainless steel, carbon;
  • loudness — with or without a dB killer, and whether it must be road-legal;
  • condition — new, or used in working order;
  • delivery city and budget.

Example: “I need a slip-on for a Yamaha R6, 2010, titanium, Akrapovic preferred, with a dB killer. New, or used with no dents and no burnt patches. Delivery to Delhi, budget up to ₹30,000.”

How not to get it wrong

An exhaust is chosen by the generation of the bike, not just by the name: on the R6 of different years the mounts and the shape differ. So the year is a must. For a used one, look at the photos: dents, cracks at the welds, signs of repair, the condition of the mounting lugs and the seal. Ask about the weight, what is included and whether the brackets and gaskets are there.

Many people forget about tuning: on some bikes it is better to adjust the fuel delivery after changing the exhaust. That is a question for a mechanic, and you can simply ask the seller whether a remap or a jet kit is needed.

How BlaBlaPrice helps here

You do not need to hunt for a slip-on through listings and spend weeks writing to sellers. You create one request, and motorcycle-parts sellers reply in the chat: what exactly they offer, the price, the condition, delivery. Each sees where their offer stands, so they often improve their terms. The site shows the best-value one first, with reviews of the seller beside it. Contacts stay hidden until you choose a seller. Details are on the “How it works” page.

If you are changing engine parts along with the exhaust, look at engine parts.

Questions and answers

Which is cheaper and simpler: a slip-on or a full system?

A slip-on is usually cheaper and simpler to fit. A full system changes more, but costs more and takes more work.

Do I need to retune the engine after a new exhaust?

On some models it is advisable. Ask the seller or a mechanic whether a jet change or a remap is needed for your bike.

How do I make the exhaust quieter?

Ask for a silencer with a dB killer and say so in your request. Sellers will then offer quieter options at once.

How do I get several offers at once?

Describe the bike, the year and the type of exhaust in one request, and sellers will send prices to the chat. You choose.
