Car filters: a service kit or single filters — how to buy well

A service kit instead of filters one by one

Before a service you usually replace the oil, air and cabin filters, and by schedule the fuel filter too. Buying a kit is more convenient: everything arrives together and you will not forget any item. If you plan several services ahead or look after several identical cars, count the total and ask for a price on the whole quantity at once.

What kinds of filters there are and how they differ

An oil filter is either a spin-on canister or an element in a housing; they are not interchangeable. An air filter can be flat, round or square, depending on the model. A cabin filter comes in ordinary and activated-carbon versions; the second traps smells better. A fuel filter differs between a diesel and a petrol engine, and in some cars it is built into the fuel pump. Automatics also have a transmission oil filter, which is often bought with a pan gasket.

What to put in your request

  • Which filters — oil, air, fuel, cabin or a full kit.
  • Model and year — for example, Honda City, 2015.
  • Engine — capacity and fuel: 1.5 petrol; the filter type depends on it.
  • VIN — for an exact match, especially after a facelift.
  • Part number — from the old filter or the catalogue.
  • Original or aftermarket — a known brand or the original.
  • Quantity — kits for several services.
  • City, delivery and budget.

Example: “I need a service filter kit for a Honda City, 2015, 1.5 petrol: oil, air, activated-carbon cabin filter. Original or a reputed brand. Courier delivery to Ahmedabad. Budget up to ₹2,000.”

How to compare offers

In your request you describe what you need, and sellers reply in the chat: brand, set, price, delivery. The platform shows the offer that is best on content first, and reviews of the seller help you choose between similar ones. Because sellers see their place among competitors, they often add free delivery or widen the kit. Contacts are hidden. More in how it works.

Cheap filters differ from good ones: the amount and density of the filter paper, the presence of a bypass valve, the quality of the sealing rubber. This matters most for oil and fuel filters. Ask whether the seal rings and the drain plug washer are in the set. Beware of fakes of known brands: look at the quality of the packaging and the markings, and buy from sellers with reviews.

Common mistakes

Choosing a filter by model without the engine. Taking a “universal” cabin filter that does not fit. Not changing the filter together with the oil. Forgetting that in some cars the air filter must be changed more often if you drive on dusty roads, which is common in much of India. Look for related parts in the engine, fuel system and car air conditioning and heating sections.

Questions and answers

Can I buy filters by the car model alone?

It is better to add the engine and the year, and ideally the VIN. Then the seller can pick filters that will definitely fit.

Is a carbon cabin filter better than an ordinary one?

It also traps smells and some harmful substances, but costs more. For city driving it is a handy choice.

How often should filters be changed?

The interval is given in the service book or the maker’s schedule. Driving conditions (dust, city traffic, short trips) can shorten it.

Can I order filters for several cars at once?

Yes, write the number of kits and the models in your request. Sellers will give you a total price.
