Car interior parts: seats, dashboard, door panels — how to find them

The interior is about colour, texture and trim level

Interior parts are trickier than mechanical ones: it is not enough to find the right model, the colour, upholstery and version also have to match. A seat with a side airbag will not fit a car that has none: the wiring and connectors are different. The same dashboard on a pre-facelift and a facelift car can have different connectors and a different centre console.

What people look for most

Seats (driver, front passenger, rear bench), the dashboard and its parts, door panels, armrests, the glovebox, the headliner, floor mats, trims and pillar plastics. The most expensive items are seats with power adjustment and heating: they have motors, occupant sensors and connectors. They are often bought used from dismantlers, because new ones are too expensive or unavailable.

What to put in your request

  • Which part — seat, dashboard, door panel, armrest, headliner, mats.
  • Model and year — for example, BMW 5 Series F10, 2012, facelift.
  • Trim level — heating, power adjustment, memory positions, airbag, sports seats.
  • Upholstery — leather, fabric, Alcantara; the colour, for example black leather.
  • Side — front/rear, left/right.
  • Condition — new, or used with no wear, cracks or smells.
  • Original or aftermarket — especially for mats and seat covers.
  • City, delivery and budget.

Example: “I am looking for a front passenger seat for a BMW 5 Series F10, 2012, facelift. Black leather, heated and power-adjustable, with no wear or punctures. Courier delivery to Delhi. Budget up to ₹14,000.”

How to compare offers

Create a request describing the part, and dismantlers and shops will reply in the chat: what is in stock, price, photos, delivery terms. The platform shows first the offer that is best on content, and reviews of the seller help when offers look alike. Sellers can see where their offer stands, so they compete on terms. Your phone number stays hidden.

Small things matter in an interior, so ask for photos from different angles and in daylight. Look at wear on the seat bolsters, damage to the leather in the creases, yellowing of plastic, missing clips and mounts. Ask about smell: a smoky interior or a damp carpet from monsoon leaks is hard to fix. If the seat has an airbag, ask whether a warning light came on in the dash. Ask about returns: if the part does not fit, will they take it back.

Common mistakes

Not stating the colour and material and getting something “similar”. Taking a part from another generation. Forgetting the connectors and mounts. For the body, not the interior, see body parts, and for climate see car air conditioning and heating. More about the process is on the “How it works” page.

Questions and answers

How do I choose a seat so that it fits?

State the model, year, trim level (heating, power adjustment, airbags) and upholstery. Connectors and mounts differ, so ask the seller to confirm compatibility.

Is it safe to buy a used seat with an airbag?

The airbag affects safety, so ask about its working order and where it came from. If you are not sure of its condition, it is better to consult a mechanic.

Can I buy a door panel on its own?

Yes, and dismantlers often have them. Check the colour, trims, speakers and window switches, as they differ by trim level.

How long does delivery usually take?

It depends on the city and the courier; the seller gives the time in the offer. For large parts, ask how they will be packed.
