Living room furniture: wall unit, TV stand, coffee table, how to choose
Start with the space and how you live
A living room is usually a place to relax and to host guests, and often a bedroom as well. The set depends on that: a wall unit or modular section, TV stand, coffee table, chest of drawers, display cabinet, shelves. In a small room, wall-hung modules and open shelves work better; in a large one, big sections and a sideboard. Work out the free area for furniture, and don't forget the doors, radiator and sockets.
The sofa in the living room
If the sofa doubles as a bed, the mechanism is decisive. For daily sleeping, look for a flat surface, for example a pull-out or fold-out type with no dips, while for occasional guests a simpler variant will do. Upholstery: velour is pleasant but needs care, leather and faux leather are easy to clean. There is more about choosing on the page Sofas and armchairs.
How it works with BlaBlaPrice
Instead of driving round showrooms and comparing catalogues, you write one request. Shops and furniture makers reply in the chat with the model, price, delivery and assembly. They can see where their offer stands and can improve their terms, so the price often comes out better. It is free for the buyer, and contacts are opened only to the one you choose. What to put in your request
- What exactly — wall unit, TV stand, coffee table, sofa, sideboard, display cabinet, shelves.
- Sizes — wall length, height, depth, free space.
- Material — particle board, solid wood, MDF; upholstery for soft furniture.
- Sofa mechanism, if needed, and whether it will be slept on daily.
- Colour or style — sonoma oak, white, loft, classic.
- New or second-hand.
- Delivery, carrying up and assembly.
- City and budget.
Example: “I need a new TV stand up to 180 cm long and a wall unit with shelves, up to a 2 m ceiling, sonoma oak colour, particle board. Delivery and assembly. Delhi, 4th floor with a lift. Budget up to ₹50,000.”
What to compare in offers
Check the material, panel thickness and edging, the hardware (whether there is soft-close) and how the modules go together. Ask what is in the set: sometimes the price is for one module, not the whole set. Check that the depth and height are what you need for your TV, speakers or equipment. For wall-hung units, ask what weight the fixings are rated for.
For made-to-measure furniture there is a separate area: custom-made furniture. It makes sense if your niche is non-standard.
Common mistakes
- Buying a wall unit without measuring the room and any projections in the walls.
- Forgetting that a TV needs room for ventilation and cables.
- Taking different shades from different batches and matching them by eye.
- Not agreeing on assembly and then assembling it yourself.
