Dog and cat vaccination and microchipping: prices from vets
Where to start: which service you need
People mean different things by “vaccination”. The combined dog vaccine (distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, parainfluenza, often leptospirosis too) and the rabies shot are separate injections, and cats have their own combined vaccine against panleukopenia, calicivirus and herpesvirus. Microchipping is a separate procedure: the microchip goes under the skin and its number is entered in the vaccination card and the database.
If you are travelling abroad, paperwork is added. The requirements depend on the destination country: some need only a chip and a rabies shot, others also an antibody titre test and a veterinary certificate. Do not rely on memory. Check the rules of your destination and mention them in your request.
How a request works on BlaBlaPrice
You do not phone clinics. You describe your situation once in the request form. It is checked before it is shown, and you are told which details are missing. Then veterinary clinics and doctors in your city reply in the chat: what the price includes, which vaccine, when a slot is free, whether they can come to your home. Reviews are shown next to every offer, and BlaBlaPrice puts the best offer by substance first. You open contacts only for the one you choose. More on the “How it works” page.
What to put in the request
- Service — combined vaccine, rabies, microchip, vaccination card, titre test;
- Animal and age — species, breed, whether it is a puppy or kitten: the vaccination schedule depends on age;
- Vaccine — if you have a preference for a brand, otherwise trust the vet;
- Travel abroad — the country and the date of the trip;
- Home visit or clinic — whether the vet should come to you;
- City, area and date, and a budget if you want to name one.
Example: “Cat, 3 years old, needs a rabies shot and a microchip for travel abroad, vaccination card available. Hyderabad, Banjara Hills, preferably before 20 November. Budget up to ₹2,500.”
How to compare offers
Ask what exactly is in the price: the vaccine together with the doctor’s examination, or the chip and the vaccine separately, and whether the entry in the card and the vaccine sticker are included. Ask them to open the vial in front of you. The animal must be healthy before vaccination, so an examination and deworming a few days before is normal practice, not an extra charge.
Common mistakes
A common mistake is to get the chip and the vaccination done in the “wrong” order for a trip, so do not rush the timing and check the requirements in advance. Another is not keeping the documents: the card with stamps and vaccine stickers will be needed later. If you need a doctor for a sick pet, see veterinary care, and for transport see the pet taxi.
