Video games and consoles: how to buy at a good price and avoid scams
Start with the platform
A gamer in this category first decides what to play on: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch or a PC. Everything else follows: discs and keys don't move between platforms, and a controller from one console won't fit another. In your request, name the platform and generation straight away, for example PS5 or Series X.
Find out the region of the game too. Some discs and accounts have regional limits, which affects language, price and the ability to play online.
What to look for in each subcategory
- Consoles. For game consoles, the version (with a disc drive or digital), storage, what's in the box and, for used ones, the usage history, whether it has been modded and whether there is a warranty.
- Games. Console games come on a disc or as a key. PC games are usually digital: ask in which store the key is activated and which languages the game has.
- Controllers. Gamepads and accessories: original or compatible, wireless connection, the state of the sticks so they don't drift.
- Virtual reality. VR headsets: standalone or PC-based, the computer power needed, the set of controllers.
- Collectibles. Figures of game characters: scale, maker, boxed or not.
- Digital services. Game subscriptions and account top-ups: region, duration and the way it is delivered.
How searching works through BlaBlaPrice
You don't have to search through listings and compare prices from many sellers. You write a request in your own words: what you need, in what condition, where to deliver. You can add one photo. The request is checked, with no ads or contacts in the text, and you get hints about what details are missing.
Sellers of games and equipment reply with offers in the chat. They see whether their offer is among the best and can lower the price or add something to the bundle, such as a second controller. BlaBlaPrice shows the best offer by value first, and reviews help you weed out unreliable sellers. More in the “How it works” section.
New or used console
A new console gives you a warranty and no one else's history. A used one is often cheaper, especially as part of a bundle with games and a second controller. Ask: has it been reset, is the owner's account removed, how do the drive and cooling work, is there a box. Ask for a photo of the serial number and a video of it starting up.
Common mistakes
Buying a game without checking the platform and region. Comparing only the price, without counting what's in the bundle: games, controller, cables. Agreeing to an account “with games” without knowing whether it can be safely transferred to you. For expensive purchases, arrange shipping that lets you inspect the item.
Scams and extra costs
Gaming goods are often sold by private individuals, so fraud is more common than in other categories. Don't agree to prepayment without safeguards. Choose sellers with reviews, and don't rush even if an offer looks very good.
New releases cost more at the start, and later there are sales and editions with all the add-ons. If you are not in a hurry, a request stays open for 7 days and can be extended, so you see more offers.
Don't forget extra costs: a second controller, a charging station, a subscription to an online service, an external drive for big games. It is best to include them in the request from the start.
