How to Buy Car Rims: Alloy, Steel, New and Used
A rim fits only when several parameters match
It is easier to make a mistake with rims than it seems: the diameter fits, but the bolts do not line up. Four things must match: the diameter (R16), the PCD bolt pattern (for example 5×112, meaning five holes on a 112 mm circle), the offset ET and the centre bore diameter DIA. The rim width J decides which tyre can go on it.
The offset ET affects how the wheel sits in the arch: too low an offset can rub the wing, too high can hit the brake or suspension. If the DIA is larger than the hub, it is closed up with centring rings, and if it is smaller, the rim will not fit at all.
Alloy, steel or forged
- Steel (pressed) — cheap, easy to straighten after a knock, but heavier and plainer. Good for a second set.
- Alloy (light alloy) — lighter, better looking, but a hard knock may crack them instead of bending.
- Forged — light and strong, but much more expensive; rarely needed.
New or used
Used rims can be a good buy, but ask for photos of both sides and the inner part. Look for cracks, weld marks and runout: a good seller is ready to show the result of a check on a balancing machine. A repaired rim should be declared openly.
How to compare offers
Check all the parameters: PCD, ET, DIA, J, diameter. Check whether the price is for one rim, a pair or a set, and whether wheel bolts, caps and pressure sensors are included. For used rims, ask about the condition of the paint or finish and whether the rims have been balanced.
On BlaBlaPrice you do not search through listings: you write one request, and sellers reply in the chat with photos, price and delivery. Each seller sees where they stand among the others and can improve their offer, so the price often comes out lower. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose.
