Which type of system do you need?
There are three main setups. A grid-tied system feeds energy into the grid and usually doesn't work when the grid is down. A hybrid one has batteries and keeps powering your home during outages. An off-grid system doesn't depend on the grid at all. The choice of setup decides the equipment and the price, so decide this first.

What a system consists of
- Panels: power of one panel in watts, cell type, brand (for example Longi or JA Solar).
- Inverter: grid-tied or hybrid, power, number of phases; popular makers are Deye or Huawei.
- Batteries: capacity in kWh, most often LiFePO4.
- Mounting and cables: these depend on the roof: tin sheet, flat roof or ground.
- Protection: breakers, surge protection, earthing.
What affects the cost and the result
Power and setup, equipment brand, whether there are batteries (usually the most expensive part of a hybrid system), how complex the installation is and the delivery cost. The roof matters for output too: direction, tilt, shade from trees and neighbouring buildings. A south-facing roof with little shade gives more than an east-west one with shading.
Also find out whether the provider offers the design and the approval from your power distribution company. If you plan to feed power into the grid, you will need it, and it is better if the provider handles it.

- Power in kW.
- System type: grid-tied, hybrid, off-grid.
- Batteries: capacity and type.
- Installation site: roof, its material and area, or ground.
- Installation: design, fitting, connection, paperwork.

How to compare offers
Compare like with like: panel make and power, inverter model, battery capacity. Find out what “turnkey” includes: mounting, cables, protection, labour, paperwork. Ask about the warranty separately for equipment and for installation, and who services it in India. Ask for examples of finished projects.
