Footpegs, Pedals and Stands for Motorcycles: How to Buy at a Good Price
What this category includes
People look here for rider and passenger footpegs, the rear brake pedal, the gear shift lever, the kickstarter, and the side and centre stands. The parts are simple, but they depend a lot on the model: on bikes of a similar class they have different lengths, different mounts and splines. Do not mix up the left and right sides.
After a fall: what is bought most often
These parts are bought most often after a fall: the gear lever bends, a footpeg breaks, the brake pedal is damaged. After an impact check the neighbouring parts too: a bent shaft, a stripped spline or a crack in a bracket often hide there. If a part has bent, it is not worth straightening, because the metal is weakened. It is better to replace it.
For the kickstarter and the side stand, the springs and split pins matter: people often buy them together with the part.
What to put in your request
- which part — footpeg, brake pedal, gear lever, kickstarter, side or centre stand;
- bike model and year — for example Bajaj Pulsar 220, 2014;
- side — left, right or a pair;
- material — aluminium, steel, plastic;
- original or aftermarket;
- condition — new, or used in working order;
- delivery city and budget.
Example: “I need a left rider footpeg for a Bajaj Pulsar 220, 2014. Original or a good aftermarket one, aluminium. Used is fine if not bent. Delivery to Ahmedabad, budget up to ₹1,000.”
A separate word about the gear lever: it is fixed on the splines of the shaft, so the number of splines and the diameter must match. Otherwise the lever wobbles or does not seat. For a kickstarter, ask whether the ratchet gear is included, because without it the part will not work.
New, used or aftermarket upgrade
An original part fits without changes, and an aftermarket one is often cheaper. For enduro motorcycles folding footpegs and steel serrated ones are common; for cruisers and road bikes there are other shapes and lengths. Ask whether bolts, split pins, springs and bushes are in the set. When you buy used, look in the photos at the thread and the splines, because that is where most of the wear is.
- Whether it is for your exact year of manufacture: the mounts may have changed.
- Whether it has been bent or welded.
- Whether you can return it if it did not fit.
