Household services: handyman, dry cleaning, repairs for things
What this category covers
Household services are the jobs that don't need a big project but are annoying when nobody can do them. Finding a technician through ads and agreeing a time is often harder than the work itself.
For small repairs and fitting there is a handyman, and for furniture there is furniture assembly and repair and reupholstery. For clothes and fabrics: dry cleaning and laundry, tailoring and clothing repair and sofa and carpet cleaning.
Other things you may need at home
Some jobs are urgent: emergency lock opening, making keys, disinfection and pest control. For the garden and terrace there is tree cutting and trimming, a gardener, septic tank cleaning and rubbish removal. There is also repair of shoes and bags, watches, jewellery and musical instruments, and domestic help.
What to put in your request
It is easy to write too little about a small job, and the technician won't understand what to do. A few sentences fix this:
- what exactly to do — for example, put up a shelf, move a socket, clean a sofa;
- what you already have — tools, materials, fittings, parts, the furniture's instructions;
- size and quantity — how many items, the area, the height, the wall material;
- place — city, area, floor, whether there is a lift;
- when — date, time, urgent or within the week;
- special points — pets at home, children, the need for neat fitting;
- budget, if you want to name one.
How to compare offers
First find out the payment model: by the hour, per item or for the whole job. Small jobs often carry a minimum visit charge, and on a small task it is noticeable. Ask whether the visit is included, whether they bring their own tools and consumables, and whether the work carries a warranty. For repairs of things, find out what happens if the price changes after inspection, and whether the new amount is agreed in advance.
For emergency lock opening, ask whether the door will be damaged. The technician may ask for proof that you live in the flat: this is normal practice, not distrust. For jewellery, watches and musical instruments, look at experience in the narrow field and at reviews, and leave a valuable item only against a receipt.
Common mistakes
People often book “something to tighten up”, and then it turns out the technician must buy a part. Describe everything beforehand or agree who buys. Another mistake is not fixing the amount before the start: name the limits it may vary within. And photograph the result before the technician leaves.
For seasonal jobs like tree cutting, clearing the yard or rubbish removal, book early, because demand rises before and after the monsoon. In a request for a new task you can say you want someone with experience of similar jobs.
How BlaBlaPrice works
You describe the job in one request and can add a photo. Technicians reply in the chat: what they will do, what it costs or what the price depends on, when they can come. The platform shows the most useful offer first, with reviews beside each one. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose. More on the “How it works” page.
